Right at the end of the summer holidays, we decided to take a quick trip down to Cornwall. It was a last minute decision and we only stayed for one night, but it was fun!
We drove down on a Sunday afternoon, and arrived just in time for some dinner. After getting checked in to our cottage in Lelant, we drove to St Ives. We got some great fish n chips at a restaurant right on the harbor, got some ice cream at the Moomaid of Zennor, and then spent some time walking around this cute town.
The next morning we packed up and made our way down to Mt Michael's Mount. It's like a smaller version of Mont Saint Michel in France- it's an island when the tide is high but there is a causeway to access it during low tide. We arrived when the water was covering the causeway so we took a boat across to the island. Once across, it was a steep climb to get to the castle at the top, but it was a beautiful day and there were some amazing views. The kids enjoyed climbing on the cannons (of course) and as we walked around we could see the causeway slowly being revealed. We ate lunch on the mount and were able to walk across dry land back to our car.
We decided that we had time for another stop on our way back home, so we went to the Lost Gardens of Heligan (which I discovered via Pinterest before we moved to the UK, so I'm so glad we were able to go!) in Mavegissy. The Lost Gardens of Heligan is huge and beautiful and we had a blast exploring for the rest of the day. They even have a farm area, where we got to see some beautiful little piglets who were born this summer. Highly recommend this place!
After a fun-filled day we got back in the car for the drive home. It was so nice to fit in one more trip before school started back up for the kids!
